The MusicBox stack contains everything you need to know about using MusicBox. This file contains some information on system requirements and shareware information. You should also have files giving information on version history, frequently asked questions (FAQ), and converting your stacks from MusicBox 2.1 to 3.0.
All of these text files are formatted for SimpleText. If you have TeachText, some of the formatting (such as spacing and layout) may appear incorrectly.
System requirements
MusicBox is a very powerful XCMD. However, the system requirements are quite low:
• Macintosh with 68020 processor or better
• System 6.0.7 or later
If you have System 7.1 (or 7.0 / 7.0.1 with QuickTime) then it is highly recommended that you get the Sound Manager 3.0 extension. If you use MusicBox in your own stacks, recommend that the users also get this extension. This update from Apple improves the quality and efficiency of MusicBox's sound capabilities and features, especially when playing multiple sounds. The Sound Manager 3 extension features are described in more detail in the stack.
The MusicBox stack requires HyperCard 2.0 or later, and some parts require HyperCard 2.1 or later. Make sure you install the Optima 12 font, since the MusicBox stack uses this font extensively. The stack and these text files also use the Palatino Truetype or Type 1 (ATM) font, but this is not included in this package since you should have received the TrueType version with your System 7 software.
It's highly recommended that you increase HyperCard's memory allocation so that HyperCard has at least 200k free (preferably 1 megabyte) after it's open. You can check this in the Finder's "About this Macintosh" window.
Shareware information
If you want to use MusicBox in any of your stacks then you are legally obliged to register your copy. Please see the shareware information given in the stack.

Credits
The excellent MOD music file included with MusicBox, "Example MOD music", is actually called 1.9.9.3, and is by lizardking/alcatraz.
The AIFF sound file is by... Bart. The System 7 sound file is one of the system beep sounds that comes with System 7. The example 'snd ' resource (in the stack) is from the Muppets!
The MOD music code is by Frank Seide, author of the excellent Sound-Trecker application for playing and controlling MOD music files. He can be reached by email at: seide@pfa.philips.de
Thanks to my beta testers for their support and assistance, especially Patrick Burleson (pbur@tenet.edu) and Benjamin Stanley. Also thanks to all those who have given useful suggestions for MusicBox updates, and have supported my software. All support is greatly appreciated!
